At last count, there were nearly 150 organizations that called themselves a church in Wilson, NC. This leads us to ask, “Does Wilson, NC really need another church?” Some may say no. We say yes. We believe there are distinguishing marks of a true church. These beliefs have led to the organization of Wilson Presbyterian Church (PCA).
Who we are . . .
As a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), Wilson Presbyterian Church (WPC) is a gathered group of believers of Jesus Christ organized for the purpose of maintaining biblical fidelity with a missionary zeal. To accomplish this, we rest not on programs or gimmicks but on the truths of the historic Christian faith that we have inherited. Embracing our past allows us to stand firm in the present as we anticipate the future with hope.
Already . . .
Life at WPC is ruled first and foremost by the authority of the Holy Scriptures. We believe that it is only through God’s Word that we are enabled to see beyond our perceived needs to our real needs. Therefore, we preach and teach that the Bible alone teaches all that is necessary for our salvation from sin and is the only standard by which all Christian behavior is measured. This commitment to Scripture keeps Christ and His cross at the center of our vision. As a result, we affirm that salvation is only accomplished through the mediatorial work of Jesus Christ alone. We believe that His sinless life and substitutionary atonement are the only sufficient means for our justification and reconciliation to the Father. This reconciliation is a work of God’s free grace by which His Holy Spirit supernaturally works faith in us and brings us to Christ by releasing us from our bondage to sin and raising us from spiritual death to spiritual life. Because salvation is of God and has been accomplished by God, we focus our worship on Him and not ourselves. All glory is ascribed to Him alone. We are sinners saved by grace and we will not rest until the glory of God covers the world as the waters cover the sea.
Not yet . . .
It is because of who we are that allows us to realize who we are to become. We look forward to the day when we stand perfected, free from the sin and misery of this fallen world, however, we are not there yet. We believe that until then we should gather together to encourage and build each other up to be conformed into the image of Christ. In doing so, we affirm that we all are a work in progress. If you are perfect then WPC may not be the place for you, but if you are not, come and grow with us as we Speak God’s Truth in Love.
